Sacred Sites Second Annual Open House Weekend Saturday, May 19: 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 20: 12 Noon – 2:00 p.m.
On the weekend of May 19-20, 2012, we will participate in the New York Landmarks Conservancy's Second Annual Sacred Sites Open House weekend, inviting the public to experience our Landmark edifice as a permanent repository of faith and art. Blessed Trinity is recognized as the purest replication of Lombard-Romanesque architecture in the United States and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The extensive use of terra cotta in its construction (1923-1928) provided for one of its most unique features: an elaborate display of medieval iconography created by Rev. Thomas Plassman, then President of St. Bonaventure University. The church contains more than two thousand symbols which depict this "summa" or summary of Christian beliefs in ceramic tiles, paintings and sculpture, and docents will be available to help interpret them.
Sacred Sites is the country's oldest and largest statewide program providing financial and technical assistance to help historic religious properties. Since 1986, Sacred Sites grants totaling $7.3 million have mobilized more than $530 million in restoration and repair projects statewide. Click HERE to see other Western New York religious sites participating in the Sacred Sites weekend. In Buffalo, they include The Buffalo Religious Arts Center, Corpus Christi R. C. Church, First Presbyterian Church of Buffalo and St. John's-Grace Episcopal Church.

This professional music ensemble, under the direction of Christopher Weber, has been performing since 2003. Its musicians are seasoned performers from orchestras throughout the United States and around the world, and their primary goal is to present concerts that preserve and celebrate the cultural heritage of our community. Please join us on July 22nd, when The Camerata presents Architecture and Music. Their 2:30 p.m. performance will be preceded by an architectural tour of Blessed Trinity guided by Martin Ederer, a Camerata violinist as well as a history professor and author of Buffalo's Catholic Churches, Ethnic Communities and the Architectural Legacy.
